Attended film school but then dropped out and started working at a convenience store
*In 1993, made the movie "Clerks" for only $27,575 in 3 weeks. Filmed mainly at the store he was working at. Clerks went on to dazzle audiences at film festivals and grossed over $1million.
*His next movie, "Mallrats", was funded in 1995 for $5.8 million by Gramercy films. This was Smith's first major motion picture release. Unfortunately, the film did not do as well at the box office as was hoped.
*1997, "Chasing Amy" is released and Smith proves himself a to be a very talented screenwriter and director instead of a one hit wonder that previous critics had canned him as.
*1999, "Dogma" is released and causes controversy among religious audiences.
*2001, "Jay and Silent Bob" is released and acts to tie all of his previous movies together
